serve the Protestants in this country or elsewhere than myselfe
But the occasion of all this uproar and Tumult has been traced
to come out of Stafford County in Virga There being some
ill minded persons there (of the meanest quality) that onely
want a pretence to plunder quiet people I received a Letter
lately from Coll Spencer in Virginia which advises that they
are under the same apprehendsions of being destroyed by the
Indians and Catholics of Maryland as you are which I doe

againe assure you Gentl that there has bin noe occasion given
for anv such surmise nor never will be any here that are in
power I engage my life and all thats deare to me Therefore
pray Gents use your endeavours to satisfy that people that as
wee have lived happily and quietly soe wee may doe still I
thinke there can nothing hinder it but our owne jealous
humours I hope you have received what was sent by Mr
Walter Smith from Coll Jowles which I doubt not but will give
satisfaccon to all Rationall men I have nothing further to
Communicate to you at present But onely to desire you Gentl
not to Credit any such false Rumours and reports then
remaining

Coll Jowles and Coll Darnall who has bin here 'ere since
yesterday at noone together with Mr Richard Smith junr and
others are designed to goe over into Charles County and from
thence to the freshes of Patuxent to meet with Majr Beale in
order to range the wood to see if they can meet with any
Indians that should cause this confusion And then doe designe
to give the Gentl of Anne Arundall County a vessel
