I Richard Fyffe doe depose that I heard William Sharpe
say that the Indians when they were drunke did say that they
were to fight against the English And further sayth not

I will take my oath that Fyffe did say all that Atkey had
sworne was true enough and yet when he came to be sworne
himselfe he would not say anything as to that part of the oath
which related to Coll Darnall
Hen: Jowles

Gentlemen
This is to acquaint your honr that the people through out
all the Countrey are in a very greate Tumult and Uproar such
as will not be easily pacifyed unles some speedy satisfacon be
given them; There has bin a Rumour a greate while, and now
Instruccons come over from Virginia to Confirme it That the

Catholicks and Indians have plotted together to disturb cutt off
all the protestants in the province, and the Indians doe already
appeare, and begin to Infort themselves at the head of the
River. Wherefore to satisfy the people and provide for the
defence of the Countrey your honers (if you soe thinke fit will
doe well to send a Comission to some person whome you
shall thinke best to trust in soe wayty an affaire, to Rayse
some men for the defence of the Countrey at the head of the
River and Imediately to returne the Armes with powder and
bulletts sufficient For the which wee have sent this boate and
hands on purpose for untill you doe that doe and will hold
themselves betrayed by your honr to the Comon Enemy Thus
hopeing to receive a speedy and satisfactory answer by these
bearers I rest in greate haste
