till the meeting of the Assembly to have the concurrent
advice & Ioint Consent of the Representative Body of this
Province in an Affair so Considerable We needed not (we
Conceived) to have used many Arguments to moove your
Excellency to a Belief of what we had written in our last in
the way of friendship & good Correspondency by us desired
Neither may it Possibly seem so strange to your Excellency
or any other upon second & more Considerate thoughts that
we should meet with such disturbances in this Govt where
both the Interest & the Religions are so different and
Diametrically opposite to each other we are glad to under-
stand otherwise of your Government & that you are so free
from the troubles we meet with upon that accot but also
assure you we shall take the most Effectual measures we can
to heal & Supress those Maladies we Cannot at all charge
our selves with the least Deficiency or want of due regard &

respects to your Excellency and those Authorised by their
Majestys in your Govt but have always endeavoured to dem-
onstrate the Contrary as we thought we did in our last,
however mistaken if you please to review the Copy of Mr
Vansweeringens Deposition your Excellency will there find
that Coll Digges was not the only person mentioned but that
Mr Fitzhugh is as greatly Concerned & also Madam Digges
for whom we have that honour as to give credit to her Dis-
course Vansweeringen has passed his Trial publickly in our
Provincial Court where he hath ingeniously confessed the
matter of fact charged him with according to the tenor of his
Deposition Copy whereof sent your ExcIlcy
Your Excellencys demands of" returning Mr Randolph taken
up at the reasonable request of the Magistrates of this Prov-
ince to one of yours (a prudent & discreet Iustice) by vertue
of his hue & cry for several notorious Crimes & misdeamenors
of very high high Nature Committed & done by said Ran-
dolph here agst their Majestys & this Gov' are altogether
anticipated & Prevented by that Nice and Diligent Officer the
Constable of Accamack in whose Custody we understand he
was & is detained but we hope your Excellency will do the
Officer that pursues him that Iustice as to remand him into
his Custody from whom he made his escape & is thereby
become a felon (in Order to be brought to a fair & legal
Trial in time & place most proper & Convenient which we
Conceive to be where the Fact was Committed whereof we
do not in the least Doubt & are
