Worsted Stockings & to each of the two great men one of the
Kings Guns
Memd on the 14th Day of May Anno Dom 1692 were
Articles drawn & signed between his Excellency the Govr &
Tom Calvert King of Choptico vizt

Articles of peace & amity concluded & agreed upon
between the honble Lionel Copley Esqr Captain Genl & Gov-
ernor in Chief in & over this their Majestys Province & Ter-
ritory of Maryland & Tom Calvert King of Choptico the 14th
day in the Year of our Lord 1692
Imprimis It is agreed upon that from this day forward
there be an Inviolable peace & Amity between their Sacred
Majestys King William & Queen Mary & their Subjects the
Inhabitants of this Province & Virginia & the King of Chop-
tico upon the Articles hereafter in this treaty to be agreed
upon to the worlds end to endure & that all former Acts of
Hostility & damages whatsoever by either Party sustained be
buried in perpetual Oblivion
That if any Indian Subject to the said King shall hereafter
chance to kill an English man the said King shall be Obliged
to deliver such Indian up to the Govr of this Province as a
Prisoner
Forasmuch as the English cannot easily discover or dis-
tinguish one Indian from another that no Indian shall Come
into any English plantation painted and that all the Indians
should be bound to call aloud before they Come within three
hundred paces of any English mans clear ground & lay down
their arms whether Gun Bowes or arrows or other weapon for
any english man that shall appear upon his Call to take up &

in case no one appear that he shall there Leave the said Arms
it he come nearer & that afterwards he shall endeavour by
calling aloud to give notice to the English of his nearer
approach & if any English man shall kill an Indian that shall
Come unpainted & give notice & deliver up his Arms as
aforesaid he shall dye for it as well as an Indian that killeth
an English man & in case the Indians & English meet acci-
dentally in the woods Every Indian shall be bound immediately
to throw down his arms upon call & in Case any Indian so
meeting an Englishman shall refuse to throw down his arms
upon call he shall be deemed as an Enemy
4 The Priviledge of hunting crabbing fowling and fishing
shall be preserved to the Indians inviolably
5 That every Indian that killeth or stealeth an Hog Calf or
other Beast or any other goods shall undergo the same pun-
ishment that an English man doth for the like Offence
6 In Case any Servants or Slaves run away from their
