less then appealing to the King and Councill and this so pub-
lickly that he gives occasion to other malignts as well as him-
self to set at nought and have in Contempt the Authority of
this their Majestys Government which we are well assured
your Lordships will in no wise Countenance, as altogether
unsafe for their Majestys Interest to admit or allow of, &
therefore we make Bold to give your Lordships this true and
Impartial Accot humbly recommending the same to your Lord-
ships more noble serious and judicious considerations not only
for Reformation of the premises but also to discourage and
prevent such like arrogant attempts and proceedings for the
future Wee rest

The Deposition of Cleborn Lomax Clk of Charles
County taken before us Capt William Barton & Mr
Henry Hawkins two of their Majestys Iustices of the
peace for the County aforesaid by vertue of an Order
from his Excellency the Govr and the honble Councill
bearing date the 15th day of October Anno Dom 1692.
Cleborn Lomax Sworn and examined saith that when he
went to wait upon the honourable Sr Thomas Lawrence
Baronet their Majestys Secretary of this Province of Maryland
to know his Honours pleasure whither he should continue in
his Office of Clerk of Charles County his Honour St Thomas
did demand of him what the place was worth yearly & this
Deponent replied that the said Place was worth about twelve

or fourteen Thousand pound of Tobacco p Ann and his
Honour replied that it was worth thirty thousand pounds of
Tobacco p ann as he was informed and this Depont replied to
his Honour that since he had the place he could not yet make
twenty thousand pounds of Tobacco p Ann of it and that
yearly he lost four or five thousd pounds of Tobacco in bad
debts and his Honour Sir Thomas further told this De-
ponent that a tenth part of the Fees were Yearly due unto
him, and that a tenth part of the fees from the date of
his Commission was due unto him, and that he expected
