whereby is intimated that the Indians of Nanticoke make their
request That the Grave of one Enock an English man may be
opened to satisfy the Indians that the said Enock was really
dead & buried; The said Enock was buried in Baltemore
County and murthered by some Indians of the Nanticoakes
And some of the Nanticoakes being now at Majr Sewalls at
patuxent intending for Baltemore County for the purpose
aforesaid. It is ordered (for this time upon this present occa-
sion) the Sheriff of Baltemore County in person goe and see

the Grave opened where the said Enock lies to show his
Corps to the Indians that goe up, and give them as full and
ample satisfaccon in the matter as possibly he can.
And that the said Majr Sewall give the said Indians (now
at his house) to understand that the request is granted them as
being the first that ever was required in this nature But for the
future they must not expect the like But give more Credit to
the sayings & assertions of the English.
A Letter writt to Major Long high Sheriffe of Balt vizt

24th Aprill 1688.
Maj: Long.
You are hereby commanded and required that upon sight
hereof you goe along in person with the bearers being Indians
to the Grave where that Enock lyes that was lately murthered
in your County by the Nanticoake Indians and that you cause
the Grave to be opened and the Corps to be shewn to the
Indians there (desireing to see the same) and that you give
the said Indians all further and the most ample satisfacon you
can that the said Enock is really dead and buried (they having
a scruple among themselves that he is not) hereof you are not
to faile at your utmost perill and by the first opportunity give
the Councill to understand your proceedings in this matter
