At the Court at Whitehall
the 10th of Septr 1691.

Present
The Lords of His Majesty's most Honorable
Privy Councill.

Whereas Peter Paggen Merchant trading to Maryland did
this day acquaint the Board, that he had received Bills by
order of the Convention of Maryland, drawn by several mas-
ters of ships in those parts upon their correspondents in Eng-
land amounting to the sum of one thousand and seventy one
pounds, sixteen shillings and two pence, and being in dis-
charge of one moiety of the duty of two shillings per hogs-
head and of the Port duties payable by them in Maryland,
It is this day ordered in Councill, that the Right honorable the
Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, be desired to call
before them the said Peter Paggen, and taking into their
hands the said Bills, to give orders that they be presented to
the several merchants concerned therein for payment of the
Contents, and to dispose of the same for their Majesty's ser-
vice according to the Act passed in Maryland in that Behalfe.

Mr Perry concerning the Maryland Councill

London: 7ber. 17 1691.
Hond Sir
I was out of towne yesterday: soe could not answer yors as
to the list sent know only those with a pricke against them
which we believe are honest and good men: some of them we
corrispond with: and we know not. but they are well affected
to the present Gouvemt: not haveing heard any thing to the
contrary at any time: the Name Mr Abraham Harman we
never heard of but one MrIohn: Hammond we have and suppose
a good man. There are severall might be named by others
that are qualified which tho to us unknowne are good men :
There is one Mr Geo Layfeild that married Collo Stephens
widdow a man well affected to the governmt that lives in
Somerset County in Maryland: find not in the list tho heard
he was named we doe know severall good men: as to there
conversation in buissiness but how fitt so ever am apt to
beleive will be unwilling to ingage in the Govermt having
espoused my Lords Interest: & upon all Inquiries have not
the acquaintance with men soe as to recomend as on such
occasion as this ought to be: however have on the list sent
given the best thoughts at present offers: excuse Sr these from
