1690. to us directed for the tryall and bringing to speedy
Iustice the murderers of Mr Iohn Payne your Majties late Col-
lector for Patuxent within this province wee the Representa-
tives of this your Majties said province upon the receipt of the
said murderers from your Majties Collony of Virginia sent
hither and delivered up by that Governmt Soone after ap-
pointed their tryall which accordingly was proceeded on
before your Majties Iustices thereunto assigned within this
province and Sentence of death upon three of them found
guilty passed yesterday in order to their being brought to spedy
Iustice and condigne punishment by your Majties said Letter
wee were commanded to the greate satisfaction of all your
Majties good Subjects here and the terrour of the popish
and adverse party your Majties and the Governmts Enemies
from daring ever hereafter to attempt matters of the like bar-
barous and horrid Complexion within this your Province as
wee have good cause to conceive although wee have still
reason and cannott forbear to complaine to your Majtie the
fountaine of our releife and redress in all our calamities of the
Insolent, rude carriage and behaviour of that party their con-
tinued repeated and indefatigable paines industry and endeav-
our to disturb the peace and quiett of this your Majties prov-
ince particularly some of those mercenary ill affected persons
here Inhabitants whom the Lord Baltemore procured to
appeare against us our agents before your Majestie and
Councill in England the last yeere and are since returned into
this Province loaden with most notorious false pamphletts
Letters and newspapers from the said Lord Baltemore and
others his and their accomplices in England procured and
contrived which they scatter and disperse abroad on purpose
to disturb amuse and terrify your Majties good subjects here
from their due faith and allegiance they owe and Stand bound
unto your Majties and their Obedience to this your Majties Gov-
ernmt with a prospect and more than seeming probability of
being againe brought under the same Tyrannical popish arbi-
trary Governmt as formerly under which wee have soe long
suffered patiently without hope of redress untill it pleased
heaven to open the way of conducting your most Sacred
Majtie to the throne of England our native Country and sett
you over us our Saviour and protector from these perrillous
and Callamatous Evills which wee were Just ready to fall in
and Sinke under whereby wee have beene Encouraged to fly
unto your Majtie and Shelter ourselves under the shadow of
your wings from the malicious attempt designe and practices
of your and our Enemys who Stick not to say and vent them-
selves and their Venom by publickly declareing and confi-
dently assumeing that they doubt not in a Short time but that
