is hereby referred to the Right Honorable the Lords Commrs
of their Majesties Treasury, to give all necessary directions
there in accordingly, as also to appoint such Officers or Officer
in Maryland for the collecting and receiving for the future the
said moiety of the Impost of two shillings p hogshead appro-
priated as aforesaid, and such other Revenue as shall be raised
for those purposes and for taking and remitting an account of
what has been received of the said impost, since the meeting
of the said Convention in Maryland in order to a due applica-
tion thereof It being Her Majestys pleasure that the said duty
and moiety of the said Impost be hereafter collected by such
as shall be appointed by the Lord Baltimore to collect and
receive the same for his own use pursuant to the Report of
the said Committee,

Trusty and Well beloved, Wee greet you well, We have
been informed by your letter of the eleventh of July last, that
you have received our Royal Commands bearing date the 5th
day of February 1689, and given due obedience thereunto,
and having since heard what your deputies and Agents have
offered to us, Wee have thought fitt to take our Province of
Maryland under our immediate care and Protection, and by
letters Patents under the Great Seale of England to appoint
our trusty and well beloved Lionel Copely Esqre of whose
prudence and loyalty we are well assured to be our Govr
thereof, untill whose Arrivall we do hereby authorise and
impower you to continue in our name the administration of
the Governmt and preservation of the peace and property of
our subjects there, willing and requiring you to take care that
one moiety of the Impost of two shillings for every hogshead
of Tobacco, exported from our said Province, be collected for
the use and support of our Government there, and to permitt
the duty of fourteen pence per tunn, and the other moiety of
the said duty of two shillings p Hogshead, to be collected and
received for the use of the Lord Baltimore as Proprietary of our
said Province, by such as shall be appointed by him to collect
and receive the same. Wee have been likewise informed by
the Representacons that have been transmitted to us of the
murder of our late Collector, and accordingly directed some-
