Publication and Commercial Use of Archives' Materials
Permission is required for any and all
materials, including both Government/Public Records and Special
Collections.

materials including photographs, maps, documents, and artifacts in
Special Collections. Commercial uses include -- but are not limited to
-- advertising, posters, brochures, newspapers, periodicals, websites,
books, videos, and all other media both electronic and
traditional. See the Fee Schedule

Records.
- A copy of all publications featuring
material from the Maryland State
Archives must be donated to its library free of charge.
- Some items in our Special Collections may have additional usage
fees or special permissions required by the donor. In most cases, these
restrictions are clearly marked at the time you make your selection.
The Director of Special Collections
will advise you how to proceed if this is necessary.

- If you wish to videotape materials, please
see our videotaping policy.
- Permission must be secured in advance from a member of
Reference Management or the Director of Special Collections for the use
of tape recorders, digital or traditional cameras, and other special equipment. Personal scanners (flat bed and sheet fed) may NOT be used with any archival
material at the Maryland State Archives. Hand held digital
cameras
without flash may be used with the permission of the search room
supervisor. The use of any
materials from our collections is dependent upon its condition.
- Patrons will not make
copies
of materials obtained from the collections of the Maryland State
Archives.
- All responsibility for infringement
of copyright in use of materials is
assumed by the patron.
