In June 1812, the United States went to war after years of simmering tensions with Great Britain. The war gave Americans a generation of military heroes and stunning victories like the Battle of New Orleans. Most famously, the nation gained an anthem, inspired by the defense of Baltimore’s Fort McHenry.

Baltimore Area Boy Scouts Issued Land Patent
On June 20, 2012, the Board of Public Works approved the grant of a land patent to the Baltimore Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America for 19.014 acres of land in the Fifth Election District of Harford County.

Book Binding in Early Maryland: Highlights from Willman Spawn Collection
Prominent Philadelphia bookbinder and historian, first came to the Maryland State Archives as a private researcher in 1963. His work helped to further the knowledge of early Maryland bookbinders, as well as those from Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, and England. The collection of bindings and related materials was named in honor of the extensive research Mr. Spawn did with the records.

Stories of Flight from Maryland
This exhibit was created and designed between 2010 and 2011 in part to meet matching requirements of a U.S. Department of Education Office of Post Secondary Education Grant to study the Underground Railroad in five counties of Maryland's Eastern Shore, including Dorchester, Caroline, Queen Anne's, Talbot and Kent.
