84 defend In Testimony Whereof I Robert G. Rawleigh have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifth day of January eighteen hundred and fifty four Signed sealed and delivered Robert G. Rawleigh (seal) in the presence of John D. Stevens Maryland Dorchester County, to wit: On the fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four personally appeared before me a Justice of the peace in and for Said County, the within named Robert G Rawleigh and acknowledged the within bill of Sale to be his act and deed according to the purport true intent and meaning of the Same and at the Same time came before me Samuel Brohawn party grantee within mentioned and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration set forth in this bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein Set forth, according to the act of Assembly made and provided Received January 10th 1854 of Samuel Brohawn the Sum of One Dollar in lieu of a Stamp on Acknowledged before John D. Stevens J. P. this Bill of Sale Francis J. Henry clk Emma L. Creighton Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Mortgage Bill of Sale √ from xd was received and recorded on the 11th day of January 1854 to wit: Hagar Boley This Indenture made this fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and fifty four by and between Hagar Boley of Dorchester County and state of Maryland of the one part and Emma L. Creighton of the Said County and State of the ^of the^ other part whereas the said Hagar Boley owes and Stands Justly indebted to the Said Emma L. Creighton in the Sum of five hundred Dollars Current Money and to Secure the payment thereof is willing to Execute these presents now this indenture witnesseth that the Said Hagar Boley for and in Consideration of the premises and of the Sum of one Dollar Current money to her in hand paid by the said Emma L. Creighton before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted Bargained and Sold and by these presents doth grant Bargain and Sell unto the Emma L. Creighton her Executors administrators and assigns all and Singular one negro man Joseph Boley a Slave for life To Have and To Hold all and singular the said Joseph Boley unto the Said Emma L. Creighton her Executors administrators and assigns to her and their own use and behoof provided always and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the said Hagar Boley do and Shall well and truly pay or Cause to be paid unto the Said Emma L. Creighton her Executors adms or assigns the full Sum of five hundred Dollars Current money with legal interest for the Same that is to Say one hundred Dollars on or before the first day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty five one hundred on or before the first day of January eighteen hundred and fifty six one hundred Dollars on or before the first day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty Seven one hundred dollars on or before the first day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty eight and one hundred dollars on or before the first day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty nine then and in Such Case these presents and every matter and thing herein Contained Shall Cease determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes any thing herein Contained to the Contrary notwithstanding and the said Hagar Boley does for herself her heirs Executors adms Shall well and truly pay or Cause to be paid unto the Said Emma L. Creighton her Executors administrators or assigns the Said Sum of five hundred dollars Current money together with interest for the Same after the rate aforesaid at such time and after such manner as herein before set forth and agreed for the payment thereof. But it is understood and agreed by and between the parties to this indenture that if the Said negro man Joseph Boley die at any time before the first day of January one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine then and in such Case payment on the Said Sum of five hundred dollars Shall stop and Cease to be made thereon from the time or day of the date thereof, and the sad negro man Joseph Boley shall be and remain in the possession and under the Control and management of the said Hagar Boley during the said term In testimony whereof the said Hagar Boley has hereunto set and subscribed her name and affixed her seal the day and year first herein before written Delivered to Charles L. Stimon 26.th April 1854 |
