83 and being by us privately examined apart from and out of the presence and hearing of her Said husband whether she does sign and execute and acknowledge the said instrument of writing voluntarily and freely and without being induced to do so by fear or threats of or ill usage by her husband or fear of his displeasure the said Elizabeth Hardican wife of the said David Hardican acknowledges that she does sign seal execute and acknowledge the same willingly and freely and without being induced to do so by fear or threat of or ill usage by her said husband or fear of his displeasure and we do further Certify that we are satisfied of our own knowledge that the said David Hardican and Elizabeth his wife who are named and described as and who profess to be the party grantors in the said instrument of writing are the Same persons who are named and described therein and who executed and acknowledged the Same before us at the same time personally appeared before us Justices as aforesaid Arthur Pritchett ^senr^ party grantee within mentioned and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration set forth in the aforegoing Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged & Sworn to before D. W. Tyler W. J. Cowart 1854 January 4th: Received of Arthur Pritchett Senr the Sum of one dollar in lieu of a Stamp on this Bill of Sale Francis J. Henry Clerk Hagar Boley Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale was received √ from xd and recorded on the 9th day of January 1854 to wit: Emily L. Creighton Know all men by these presents that I Emily L. Creighton of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the Sum of Five hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Hagar Boley of the State and County aforesaid Have given granted bargained and Sold and by these presents do give grant bargain and sell unto the said Hagar Boley his heirs and assigns forever one negro man Joseph Boley Slave for life about forty five years old yellow Complexion and about five feet six inches high To Have and To Hold the aforesaid negro man Joseph unto her the said Hagar Boley her heirs and assigns to the only proper use benefit and behoof of her the said Hagar her heirs and assigns forever Witness my hand and Seal this fifth day of January 1854 Signed Sealed and delivered Emily L. Creighton (seal) in the presence of D. W. Tyler State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: On this fifth day of January 1854 Personally appeared Emily L. Creighton before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the state and County aforesaid and acknowledged the above Bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be her act and deed also Same time personally appeared Hagar Boley grantee and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration mentioned in the within Bill of Sale or instrument of writing is true and bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged before and Certified by D. Johnson Samuel Brohawn Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale was received √ from xd and recorded on the 10.th day of January 1854 to wit: Robert G. Rawleigh Know all men by these presents that I Robert G Rawleigh of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of Three Hundred and Eighty Dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Samuel Brohawn of Dorchester County and State of Maryland have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Samuel Brohawn his heirs and assigns One negro girl Called "Rhoda" aged about thirteen years a slave for life and sound in body and mind To Have and To Hold the said negro girl Called "Rhoda" Slave for life as above bargained and sold unto the said Samuel Brohawn his heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns, against me the Said Robert G. Rawleigh my heirs, Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever Shall and will warrant and forever Delivered January 16.th 1854 to Samuel Brohawn |
