Ch. 509 2000 LAWS OF MARYLAND
(2) IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE BYLAWS OF THE ASSOCIATION. PAID TO
THE REGULARLY WORKING LICENSED DOCKING MASTERS WHO ARE MEMBERS IN
GOOD STANDING OF THE ASSOCIATION.
SUBTITLE 5. PROHIBITED ACTS; PENALTIES. 5.5-501. EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN THIS TITLE. A PERSON MAY NOT
PROVIDE, ATTEMPT TO PROVIDE, OR OFFER TO PROVIDE DOCKING SERVICES IN THE
STATE UNLESS LICENSED BY THE BOARD.
5.5-502. THE MASTER OF A VESSEL MAY NOT FAIL TO EMPLOY A DOCKING MASTER AS
REQUIRED UNDER § 5.5-401 OF THIS TITLE.
5.5-501. 5.5-503. A PERSON WHO VIOLATES ANY PROVISION OF THIS TITLE IS GUILTY OF A
MISDEMEANOR AND ON CONVICTION IS SUBJECT TO A FINE NOT EXCEEDING $1.000
OR IMPRISONMENT NOT EXCEEDING 6 MONTHS OR BOTH.
SUBTITLE 6. SHORT TITLE; TERMINATION OF TITLE. 5.5-601. THIS TITLE MAYBE CITED AS THE " MARYLAND DOCKING MASTERS ACT".
5.5-602.
SUBJECT TO THE EVALUATION AND REESTABLISHMENT PROVISIONS OF THE
MARYLAND PROGRAM EVALUATION ACT, THIS TITLE AND ALL REGULATIONS
ADOPTED UNDER THIS TITLE SHALL TERMINATE AND BE OF NO EFFECT AFTER JULY
1. 2010.
11-501. (a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, each American vessel engaged
in foreign trade and each foreign vessel shall employ a licensed pilot to pilot the vessel
when it is underway on the navigable waters of the State, including when the vessel is
towing or being towed by another vessel.
(b) Subsection (a) of this section does not apply to a vessel: (1) maneuvering during berthing or unberthing operations; or (2) shifting within a port with:
(I) tug assistance; and
(II) a docking master, LICENSED UNDER TITLE 5.5 OF THIS
ARTICLE, aboard the vessel.
