150 true intent and meaning of the same and at the same time came before John D. Farquharson within mentioned and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill of Sale is true and bonafide as therein Set forth according to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846 Chapter 271 made and provided. Acknowledged before James Hammersly Thomas W. Anderson Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale and Manumission 55 from Exd was Recorded on the 17 day of January 1849. To wit Eliza Waggamon Know all men by these presents that I Elisa Waggamon of Cambridge Dorchester County Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving and also for and in consideration of the Sum of two Hundred Dollars current money to me in hand paid at and before the Sealing and delivery of these Presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have sold and by these presents I do hereby Sell unto Thomas W. Anderson Esq my coloured or negro Servant Girl Priscilla McDaniel now about thirteen years of Age for the term of twenty two years from this date after which term of service the said Negro Girl is to be free and forever thereafter I do hereby manumit and set free the said Priscilla McDaniel It is an express Condition upon which the said Servant Girl is now Sold that under no Circumstances is She to be sold for the term of Service aforesaid or any portion thereof by the said Thomas W. Anderson or his heirs executors administrators or Assigns beyond the limits of the State of Maryland In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty first day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and forty Eight Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Eliza Waggamon (Seal) James Rea Nicholas D. Goldsborough Maryland Dorchester County Sct. Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this twenty first day of December in the year of Our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and forty Eight before me the Subscriber one of the State of Marylands Justices of the Peace in and for Dorchester County Personally appears Miss Eliza Waggamon and Acknowledges the aforegoing Bill of Sale Deed of Manumission or Instrument of writing to be her Act and deed for the purposes therein Mentioned. Clement Hubbard Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the Exd from 50 [stamp] 19 day of January 1849 To wit Elizabeth H Roberson [1 Dol.] Know all men by these presents that I Elizabeth H Roberson of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for the Consideration of the sum of three Hundred and four Dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Clement Hubbard of the County and State aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain Sell and deliver unto the said Clement Hubbard a negro man Charles aged about thirty four years to serve for the term of nine years or until the last of the year 1857. I will warrant and defend to the said Clement Hubbard his Exor Adm or assigns against me and against every other person or persons whomsoever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my name and Affixed my Seal this 4 day of January Delivered to C Hubbard April 1st 1850 |
