115. John A. Scott Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale M. Paid from Ex.d was recorded on the 24.th day of June 1848, To wit: W.m H. Stanley This Indenture made this seventh day of June in the year Eighteen hundred and forty eight, between William H. Stanley, free coloured man, of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, of the one part and John A. Scott, of the County and state aforesaid, of the other part Whereas the said William H. Stanley owes and stands justly indebted to the said John A. Scott in the sum of Thirty four dollars, current money, with interest from the 1.st of June Eighteen hundred & forty seven, and to secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these presents Now This Indenture Witnesseth, That the said William H. Stanley, for and in consideration of the Premises, and of the sum of One dollar, current money, to him in hand paid by the said John A. Scott, at and before the Sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt of which is hereby Acknowledged, hath granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain & sell, unto the said John A. Scott, his Executors, Administrators or Assigns, one brindle Cow white Star in forehead Ear mark a Crop off the right one Spotted Sow Ear Mark a swallow Fork in the right and an underslit off the left And Eight Shoats and one Ox Cart Two Beds, Bedsteads & furniture and all the balance of My House hold Kitchen furniture, unto the said John A. Scott, his heirs, Executors, Administrators and Assigns, to his and their own use & behoof Provided Always, and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents, that if the said William H. Stanley do & shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said John A. Scott, his Executors, Administrators or Assigns the full sum of Thirty four dollars, current money with legal interest thereon from the 1.st of June 1847, on or before the 1.st day of January next ensuing the date hereof, then in such case, these presents & every matter and thing herein contained, shall cease, determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes, any thing herein contained to the contrary Notwithstanding. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and name and affixed the date herein mentioned. Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of William H. Standley (Seal) William E. M.
