CHAPTER 281
(House Bill 736)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 604 and 605 SECTION 604 of Article 43 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition, 1965 Replacement
Volume), title "Health," subtitle "Physical Therapy" and to enact
new Sections 604 and 605 SECTION 604 of Article 43 of the An-
notated Code of Maryland to stand in place and stead of those
Sections
THAT SECTION so repealed revising the definition of
Physical Therapy and defining the practice of Physical Therapy and
relating generally to Physical Therapy in Maryland.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 604 and 605 SECTION 604 of Article 43 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition, 1965 Replacement Volume),
title "Health," subtitle "Physical Therapy," be and it is hereby re-
pealed and new Sections 604 and 605 are SECTION 604 IS hereby
enacted in the place and stead of said Sections SECTION so repealed
to read as follows:

Physical Therapy is a para-medical specialty concerned with the
physical rehabilitation of persons having disability
RESULTING
FROM, OR SECONDARY TO, injury, or disease.

605.

The Practice of Physical Therapy defined

The practice of physical therapy means the practice, for com-
pensation directly or indirectly paid, of the para-medical specialty
and includes:

1.   Performing and interpreting tests and measurements of
neuro-muscular and musculo-skeletal functions as an aid to
treatment;

2.   Planning initial and subsequent treatment programs, on the
basis of test-findings,
AND WITHIN THE ORDERS OF THE
REFERRING PHYSICIAN; and

3.   Administering treatment through the use of therapeutic
exercise, massage, mechanical devices, and therapeutic agents
which employ the physical, chemical, and other properties of
air, water, electricity, sound, and radiant energy;

but does not include the use of Roentgen rays or radium, nor the
use of electricity for cauterization or surgery.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
