(v) In Washington County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is
eight thousand dollars ($8.000.) SIXTY-FIVE HUNDRED DOL-
LARS ($6,500.).
(2) The State's Attorney shall appoint a Deputy State's Attorney,
whose salary is em thousand dollars ($6,000.) TO BE DETERMINED
BY THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.
(8) The State's Attorney shall appoint an Assistant State's At-
torney, whose salary is five thousand dollars ($5,000.) TO BE DE-
TERMINED BY THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.
(4) The Deputy State's Attorney and the Assistant State's At-
torney shall serve at the pleasure of the State's Attorney. Under the
direction of the State's Attorney or in the absence of the State's
Attorney, the Deputy State's Attorney and the Assistant State's At-
torney shall perform such acts and duties in relation to all criminal
proceedings, both having the same legal powers as the State's At-
torney, to represent the State in all proceedings in relation to grand
jury, circuit court, magistrate's hearings, boards, commissions or
agencies of this State or any County or political subdivision.
(5) The State's Attorney shall appoint an investigator, who shall
be directly under the supervision of the State's Attorney and who
shall perform such duties as the State's Attorney may designate. The
salary of the investigator as not less than sixty-five hundred dollars
($6,500.), to be determined by the State's Attorney and the County
Commissioners in their discretion. The investigator shall devotes his
full time and attention to his duties and shall not engage in other
employment during the time he is employed as investigator without
specific written permission of the State's Attorney.
(6) The State's Attorney shall employ a clerk stenographer, who
shall be directly under the supervision of the State's Attorney, whose
salary shall be determined by the State's Attorney and the County
Commissioners in their discretion.
(7) In addition to the compensation provided in this article, the
State's Attorney, for the operation of his office and the performance
of his duties, shall be provided with adequate office space in the
Washington County Court House, entitled to a reasonable expense
allowance for operating expenses and equipment, and any other
necessary stenographic and secretarial services as may be necessary.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
are not applicable to the State's Attorney in office on the effective
date of this Act but they shall become effective with the next term of
office of the State's Attorney.
Sec. 3 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
