924                              Laws of Maryland                      [Ch. 616

Commissioners, a salary of one thousand dollars ($1,000) annually
as a member of the County Roads Board; and in consideration of
the additional services to be performed by him under this sub-title,
the County Treasurer of Somerset County shall receive a salary of
six hundred dollars ($600.00) annually; and the County Roads Board
will meet concurrently with the County Commissioners of Somerset
County and on the fourth Friday of each month, and as often there-
after as the County Roads Board may deem necessary for the proper
performance of their duties.

375.  The County Roads Board shall, within thirty (30) days after
June 1, 1959, appoint a County Roads Engineer. The County Roads
Engineer must have a degree in Civil Engineering and must have
experience in road construction
, or must have had at least ten (10)
years' practical experience in constructing roads in a supervisory

capacity. The term of office of the County Roads Engineer first

appointed will run until December 1, 1962, and thereafter succeeding

terms shall run for four years from the end of the previous term.

He HE SHALL SERVE AT THE PLEASURE OF AND HE

may be dismissed by the County Roads Board during his term
for proper cause. He is subject to the authority of the County Roads
Board and has charge of making surface plats, profiles and specifi-
cations for the grading, drainage, maintenance, repair and construc-
tion of the public roads, bridges, drains, water courses, public land-
ings, culverts, curbing and guttering in the County and also is to do
or supervise the doing of all necessary engineering and other work
in connection therewith. He shall receive such salary, and payable in
such manner, as the County Roads Board determines.

376.   The County Roads Board is hereby authorized and directed
EMPOWERED to employ an Attorney and a Clerk to the Board. The
Attorney
SHALL receives RECEIVE a salary of five hundred dollars
($500.00) annually for his services to the County Roads Board; and
the County Roads Board shall fix the annual compensation of the
Clerk and the manner of payment. The Attorney may also be paid
additional fees in the discretion of the County Roads Board for
special services to the Board.

377.  The County Roads Board is hereby authorized and empowered
to employ such other personnel and to fix their compensation and the
manner of paying same as the Board deems necessary to carry out
its duties under this sub-title.

378.  In addition to their salaries or compensation above referred
to, the members, appointees and employees of the County Roads
Board shall receive traveling expenses for travel on business of the
County Roads Board beyond the limits of Somerset County where
deemed necessary by the County Roads Board.

379.  Whenever, during the effective period of the authority hereby
conferred upon the County Roads Board and prior to the repeal of
that authority, any specific authority is conferred upon Somerset
County relating to the public roads, bridges, drains, water courses,
public landings, culverts, and curbs and gutters therein, it shall be
interpreted as vesting that authority in the County Roads Board.

380.  The County Roads Board is hereby authorized and empowered
to borrow from time to time such sums of money as it may deem
