CHAP. 36.

they are hereby authorised and directed, if in their judg-
ment the public convenience will be promoted thereby, to
establish a ferry on Pocomoke river from a wharf or land-
ing on the side of Somerset county, lately erected by Levin
Pailitt, and called Pallirt's Landing, to the landing on the
Worcester county side of said river, which has heretofore
been used as the landing of Stevens' ferry, and to abolish
the old ferry from the landing formerly used on the side of
Somerset county.

Premises to be

viewed, &c

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the levy court of Somer-
set county, for the purpose of ascertaining whether the pub-
lic convenience will be promoted by the change proposed,
shall either appoint three discreet and disinterested commis-
sioners, or a committee of not less than three of their own
body, who shall view and examine the premises, and report
thereon to the said levy court.

Ground may be

condemned

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the said levy court, if
in their judgment the same shall be proper, shall, and they
are hereby authorised to condemn a sufficient piece of ground
at the new landing established under this act, for the conve-
nience of travellers, and to open a road from the old to the
new landing.

Penalty on persons

for injuring ropes,

&c

Sec. 4. And, whereas the present keeper of the said fer-
ry has, for the convenience of passengers, attached to his
ferrv boat a rope to assist in carrying it across the said river,
Be it enacted, That a penalty of twenty dollars is hereby
imposed on any person or persons who may wantonly and
maliciously cut or injure said rope, to be recovered on com
plaint before any justice of the peace, and conviction of the
fact, provided that the keeper of the said ferry shall always
have the said rope so arranged as not to impede the naviga-
tion of said river, or to stop or delay any vessel sailing up
or down the same.

A Further Supplement to the act, entitled, An act to
Incorporate a Presbyterian and Lutheran Church in
the County of Baltimore.

Preamble

WHEREAS Henry Ebaugh and Adam Burns, two of the
elders named in the act aforesaid, passed at November ses-
sion eighteen hundred, chapter fourteen, are deceased,
leaving only two survivors of said elders, to wit. Adam

at December session eighteen hundred and twenty-se-
ven, chapter ten, entitled, A supplement to the act,
entitled, An act to incorporate a Presbyterian and Lu-
