SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 206.

AN ACT to authorize the State Librarian to rearrange the
State Library and to make a new catalogue thereof.

Effeetive.

WHEREAS, The last catalogue of the books in the State
Library was made in 1870; and,

Preamble.

WHEREAS, Since that time there have been large additions
to the books therein, which said books are not catalogued, to
the great inconvenience of the Librarian, the judges of the
Court of Appeals, and other citizens of the State at large, who
have occasion to use said Library; and,

Preamble.

WHEREAS, To that end, it is a public necessity that the said
Library shall be rearranged and a new catalogue made thereof;
therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the sum of four thousand dollars be and the
same is hereby appropriated for the purpose of rearranging
the books, maps and charts in the State Library and for mak-
ing a catalogue thereof; and the State Librarian be and he is
hereby directed immediately after the passage of this act to
begin the work of rearranging the said library and making a
catalogue thereof, and having the same printed and published ;
and the said Librarian is also hereby authorized to employ
such help as he may deem necessary to the proper execution
of said work, and to contract for the printing and publishing
of said catalogue, which said catalogue shall be interlarded
with blank leaves alternately, in order that the proper addi-
tions may be made as new books are added to said library.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Comptroller be and he
is hereby directed to draw his warrant on the Treasurer to the
order of the said State Librarian, for such sums in this behalf as
