at $4,300.00 per annum, one Writ Clerk at $3,000.00 per
annum, one Assistant Writ Clerk at $2,900.00 per annum,
one Equity Docket Clerk at $2,900.00 per annum, one Ste-
nographer-Docket Clerk at $2,500.00 per annum, and such
Deputies at $2,500.00 per annum and such assistants at
such compensation as shall be provided for in the annual
Ordinance of Estimates of said City. Provision shall also
be made in said Ordinance for the expenses of the office of
the Sheriff, including the purchase and maintenance of
motor vehicles, and the Mayor and City Council shall have
the same power with respect to the salaries and expenses of
the office of Sheriff as it has under the City Charter with
respect to the salaries and expenses of all municipal
departments.

(y) (1) The deputy sheriffs shall perform such
duties incidental to the office as may be required of them
by the Sheriff appointing them. Salaries shall be paid at
least once each month.

(2) The County Commissioners of Caroline and Fred-
erick Counties may in their discretion increase the compen-
sation of the Sheriff and his deputies and other employees
of their respective counties.

(z) The County Commissioners of the several counties
and the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore City shall
furnish an office for the Sheriff and pay the necessary
expenses for telephones, stationery and for other purposes.
Unless otherwise provided in this section, the said County
Commissioners and Mayor and City Council of Baltimore
City shall provide for the necessary traveling expenses of
the Sheriff for conveying prisoners to any penal institution
in the State and other necessary traveling expenses. This
sub-section shall not apply to Calvert County.

37B. Every Sheriff shall collect all fines, costs, fees and
charges arising out of both criminal and civil cases to
which he may be entitled by law and shall exercise all the
powers conferred upon him by law to enforce the collection
of same, and shall at the end of each month during his
term of office make a sworn statement of same to the
County Commissioners of the County or to the Mayor and
City Council of Baltimore City in such form as said Com-
missioners or City Treasurer of Baltimore City, as the
case may be, may direct, and pay over the same to the
Treasurer of the County or Treasurer of Baltimore City,
as the case may be. Whenever a Sheriff shall retire from
office leaving uncollected any costs, fees, charges or moneys
