lawfully payable to him, it shall be the duty of his successor
to collect and pay over the same.

37C. It shall be the duty of the Sheriff to keep in his
office in such books as may be required and furnished him
an official record of the fees and charges to be collected
by him and those which have been collected, and such
books shall remain in his office after the expiration of his
term for the use of his successor and said books may be
audited by an accountant appointed by the County Com-
missioners or by the City Auditor of Baltimore City, as
the case may be.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the salaries
fixed by this Act shall commence as of the effective date
of the amendment to Section 44 of Article 4 of the Con-
stitution of Maryland proposed by Chapter 786 of the Acts
of 1945 and adopted by the qualified voters of the State
at the general election in November, 1946.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That if any section
or provisions of this Act shall be held invalid such invalid-
ity shall not affect the other sections and provisions of said
Act.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That Sections 622
and Sub-section (1) of 623 of Article 1 of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), Section 623
having been amended by Chapter 806 of the Acts of 1945;
Section 463 of Article 2 of said Code, as amended by Chapter
1081 of 1945; Section 742 of Article 3 of said Code, as
amended by Chapter 643 of 1945; Sections 553, 554 and 555
of Article 5, as amended by Chapter — of 1947; Section 342
of Article 7 of said Code, as amended by Chapter 763 of
1945; Sections 447, 447A and 448 of Article 8 of said Code,
Sections 447 and 447A having been amended and enacted
by Chapter 95 of the Acts of 1933 and Section 448 having
been amended by Chapter 591 of 1943; Sections 502, 503A
and 503B of Article 10 of said Code, as amended by Chapter
777 of 1939; Sections 723 of Article 11 of said Code, as
amended by Chapter 96 of 1937; Sections 493-497 of
Article 12 of said Code, Section 494 having been amended
by Chapter 427 of 1943 and Section 497 having been
amended by Chapter 301 of 1943; Section 453 of Article
13 of said Code (1942 Edition), as amended by Chapter
23 of 1947; Sections 293-293D of Article 14 of said Code,
as amended by Chapter 817 of 1945; Sections 380A-380D
of Article 15 of said Code, as amended by Chapter 457 of
