ART. 69.] OFFICERS.

14. The clerical force of the senate shall be under
the supervision and control of the secretary of the sen-
ate, who shall assign to them their respective duties
and enforce the proper performance of the same ; and
in case of the neglect or improper performance of their
duties by said officers, the secretary shall report the
same to the president of the senate. And the door-
keepers, folders, page and messenger shall be under the
supervision of and control of the sergeant-at-arms of
the senate.

15. The clerical force of the house of delegates shall
be under the supervision and control of the chief clerk
of the house of delegates, who shall assign to them
their respective duties and enforce the proper perform-
ance of the same, and in case of the neglect or im-
proper performance of their duties by said officers, the
chief clerk shall report the same to the speaker of the
house of delegates ; and the doorkeepers, folders and
pages shall be under the supervision of, and control of
the sergeant-at-arms of the house of delegates.

16. Of the senate, one secretary, with a per diem of
ten dollars ; one reading clerk, with a per diem of ten
dollars; one journal clerk and one sergeant-at-arms,
per diem each five dollars ; two committee clerks, per
diem each five dollars ; one folder, one doorkeeper and
one page, per diem each, four dollars ; one janitor, (to
be appointed by the president of the senate) who shall
be keeper of the senate chamber and the rooms adjoin-
ing, and lamplighter for the same, with a per diem of
five dollars, and a chaplain or chaplains with such com-
pensation as the senate may determine.
