&c in y Summ of Twenty pounds Sterling to bee Levied of his goods & Chattells & Richard Tull & W^m
Stevens plant^r as Sureties for y Said W^m: Layton who each of them acknowledge themselves to bee
Severally indebted unto y R^t: Honourable Charles Lord Baltemore in y respective Summs of Tenn-
pounds Sterl a peice to bee Leavyed of their goods & Chattells The Condicon of this recognizance is
Such y^t if y Said William Layton Shall make his personall appeareance att y next County Co^rt here
helld for Somm^rsett County & in y meane time bee of y good behaviour to his Said Lopp & all his

Imp^rs: That about y beginning of June Last Capt^a: Thomas Jones being in my now Dwelling house & there
Drincking beere being accompanied by Severall persons Did then & there threaton Severall Civill neightbors
draweing his rapier & they fflyeing was pursued by y Said Jones untill some left their hatts in theire
fflight to escape him y said Jones returning to my said house & thrusting his rapier pointe into the
post of y porch Did there hang itt Swearing their Death y^t would enter y house: /
2^d The Said Jones being att my house aforeSaid y 16^th this instant July Did then & there about 9 of y Clock
att night violently fall upon Richard Higgenbothem tailor to thrust him out of Doores & Did beate him
severall blowes before y said Tailor resisted or Defended himselfe y Said Tailo^r for that time being
att work att my house & then was one of my ffamily: / :
3^lyWilliam Leighton planter alsoe falling upon y Said Higgenbothem violently & I not being present all
y aforeSaid while was Called by my wife whoe told mee y^t Jones & Leighton aforesaid would kill y
aforesaid tailor upon which I came & finding y said Leighton & y Tailor fighting I Commanded
his Lopp^s peace parting them asunder & whilst I was in y exercise of my office as aforesaid y S^d
Jones laid hold upon mee rending my Shirt in peices & often Calling mee Scotts rogue Sayeing I
was a rebell with many oth^r: threatning & Scurrilous words often repeated as alsoe sayeing y^t hee had
