Profile of Volunteer:
Dr. Kent Lancaster

Dr. Lancaster serves as a loyal and hardworking volunteer for the Division of Museum Services. He initially provided and supervised curatorial interns from Goucher College beginning in 1981, where he chaired the History Department. Dr. Lancaster retired in 1993. Dr. Lancaster decided his interns were having so much fun that he agreed to join our staff as a volunteer research associate in 1989. Dr. Lancaster's extraordinary talents have helped catalog Hampton's historic photograph collection, assemble comprehensive genealogical indices, document purchases and other Ridgely activities for furnishings studies, and provide critical information for architectural restoration projects in the Hampton cemetery, the Mansion, Farmhouse, and other structures. He is presently engaged in two projects: developing a broad-based African-American research file as referenced above; and, providing essential research support to the curatorial staff. His gifted collegial support, averaging more than 30 hours a week, and brilliant analytical skills which provide sharp focus for us in many areas of research, are deeply appreciated. What would we do without him at Hampton!
