School Teachers of Early Maryland

Vallette, Eli, AA Co., advertised that he intended to start a school for not more than 20 pupils, and he wanted to hire a teacher qualified in Latin, arithmetic, English, and the Classics (AMG 17 March 1780).

Other Activities: For many years Vallette had been the Register of Wills for AA co., during the colonial and revolutionay period. In February 1776 he was paid by the Council of Safety for removing and caring for the records of the Commissary's Office. In July 1777 he was psid by the Council of Maryland for "damage done to his house and for rent whilst occupied by the soldiers" (AARP:203-204).
Death: Eli Valette died by 22 Sep 1780 when Elizabeth Valette, Thomas Harwood and William and John Brogden, execs., advertised they would settle the estate (AMG 22 Sep 1780).
