In July 2024, the Government Efficiency Commission was authorized by the General Assembly (Chapters 412 & 413, Acts of 2024).
The Commission charge is to compile and index agency reports on permits, licenses, and certificates (Code State Government Article, sec. 8-506); and review laws and regulations that affect the efficiency of processing permits, licenses, and certificates. In addition, the Commission will make reccommendations strategies for departments and independent agencies to improve permitting and licensing efficiency; and remove barriers that hinder individuals and businesses from receiving permits, licenses, and certificates.
Fifteen members constitute the Commission. Three members are appointed by the Governor, and the Senate President and House Speaker each appoint one member. Ten members serve ex officio (Code State Government Article, sec. 9-3802).
