War of 1812 Escaped Slave, St. Mary's County, Maryland

Biography:

Luce escaped from Caleb Jones' farm in St. Mary's County on August 22, 1813. She was taken by British forces that had landed at St. Jerome's Creek, just north of Point Lookout. Altogether, five slaves, namely Job, Peter, Luce, Suckey, and James, were "taken out of the kitchen & carried to the boat."1
