Report on Usage of the Job Accommodation Network
Maryland's State Profile reveals that from 1989 to 1998 the number of calls to this program per year rose from 463 in '89 to 1,137 in 97-98, hitting an all-time high of 1,673 in 1992-3.
The report, released by the Job Accommodation Network at the annual meeting of Tech Act Grantees held in February in Washington, also indicated a total of 5,000 cases related to specific job accommodation requests during this period. The most frequent request in Maryland, mirroring the national profile, is for information pertaining to job retention issues. Only 3% of Accommodations Requested for prospective employees were from companies desiring to hire an individual with a disability, as opposed to 12% of accommodations requested by individuals seeking employment.
