810. Acting Governor, Colonel Thomas Brooke(139) (20) was born in 1659 in Notingham, Prince George's County, Maryland. He died on Jan 7 1731 in Prince George's County, Maryland. Col. Thomas brooke served often as a Justice in Calvert County and in Nov 1683 was appointed one of the commissioners for laying out towns and ports.

He was a member of the Council of Maryland from Apr 6 1692 until 1707, when he was dismissed for non-attendance. He was reappointed in 1715 and served until 1724. He took the oath as Justice of the Provincial Court in 1694 and was Deputy Secretary of Maryland in 1695. On Jun 26 1701 he was commissioned Commissary General of the Province. In 1720 he was President of the Council and as such became Acting Governor of Maryland upon the departure of Governor John Hart until the latter's replacement arrived from England.

Raised a Catholic (three of his brothers became Jesuit priests), he converted to Anglicanism on his second marriage.

At the time of his death his estate was appraised at 1,374 pounds sterling, including 36 slaves, 17 of whom were mortgaged. Most of his land was heavily mortgaged as well. He was married to Barbara Dent about 1692.

811. Barbara Dent was born in 1676 in St. Mary's County, Maryland. She died on Apr 18 1754 in Calvert County, Maryland. Children were:
