of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty one before Robert King Esq.r and his Associates the same Lord proprietary his Justices of the same County Court and for the said Lord propry doth give the Court here to understand and be Informed that Mary Miles late of Coventry parish in the said County of Somerset spinster the tenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty at Somerset County af.d within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Commit fornication with a Certain Henry Walston and did permit the same Henry then and there to have Carn^al^ knowledge of her body and then and there a bastard Child on her body to beget to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the evill Example of all others in such Case offending and against the peace of the right Honrble the Lord proprietary his good rule and Government and Contrary to the Act of Assembly in such Case made and provided &c Whereupon the same Attorney of the same Lord propry for the said Lord proprietary prays the advice of the Court in the premisses and that due process against the said Mary Miles may Issue to Answer &c Thereupon it is Commanded the sheriffe of Somerset County that he should take the said Mary Miles if &.c to Answer &.c and afterwards to witt the Seventeenth day of November before his Lordships Justices at a Court then held at dividing Creek Came the af.d Mary Miles in her proper person According to a Certain recognizance by her ^and her Security^ in this part first Acknowledged and had a hearing of the Information af.d and saith that she Cannot deny but that She is guilty of the premisses af.d in the Information af.d Specified in manner and form as by the Information af.d above against her supposed and the premisses af.d in the Information af.d expressly Acknowledgeth and maketh Oath that a Certain Henry Walston is the begetter of the bastard Child she stands Informed for and is willing to pay her fine for the fact af.d &c Whereupon all and Singular the premisses being seen and by the Court here fully understood it is Considered by the Court here that the af.d Mary Miles pay unto his said Lordship the right Honourable Charles absolute Lord and proprietary of the province of Maryland for her fine by the Court hereupon her Imposed for and by occasion of the premisses af.d whereof in form af.d she is Convict thirty shillings Currt money of Maryland and that the said Mary Miles be taken to satisfie his said Lordship of the fine af.d &c Whereupon the said Mary Miles is ordered to give Security to save and keep Indemnified as well the Justices |
