55 Spencer Young wishes to obtain his freedom papers he is about five feet nine or ten inches high and is of a light complexion I have know his parents ever since I was a very small boy and knew his grand mother mother of his mother ever since I could recollect they have always borne the name of free negroes Spencers Father says he was twenty five years old on the 16 of this month there cannot be the least doubt of his being free born and twenty one years of age yrs Respt Cornelius T Scott I know the bearer to be the identical negro described above E Couch Filed and recorded on the 21s day of September 1852 and certificate issued By James F Gordon clk I hereby certify that Mary Jane Denby the bearer was born free & raised in Kent County Witness my hand the 23d day of September 1852 Temperance Usilton aged about twenty years five feet two and one half inches high dark complexion Filed and recorded on the 23d day of September 1852 and certificate issued By James F Gordon clk James F Gordon Esq clk of Circuit Court Kent County Dliv The bearer of this note Julietta Caulk is the daughter of Joshua & Martha Caulk and free born according to the best of knowledge & belief and as such entitled to the usual freedom papers or pass Hugh Wallis Julietta is five feet three inches high dark complexion about eighteen years of age & has a scar on the back of the right hand & one on the left arm Filed and recorded on the 23d day of September 1852 and certificate issued By James F Gordon clk The bearer named Violet is the daughter of a coloured woman named Dinah whom I manumitted with her children by a deed recorded in the Clerks office of Kent County Md at some time between 1819 and 1824 she is |
