free a certain coloured woman named Deborah to be free from and after the
first day of January in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty and
the said coloured woman named Deborah having made application to me
for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case
made and provided and whereas also upon the oath of Jacob Green of
Caroline County that the said coloured woman named Deborah for whom this
certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission
I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her
age as expressed in the said manumission she was twenty eight years of
age the first day of January eighteen hundred and thirty two five feet
and three quaters of an inch high or thereabouts was born and raised in
Caroline County Complexion black has a scar of a cut nearly in the middle
of her forehead and the middle finger of her right hand crippled and crooked
and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit, Whereas heretofore to wit; on the twenty fifth
day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen
a certain Richard Chambers by Deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged
and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a
certain negro woman named Ann Smith to be free from and after the twenty fifth
day of August last past and the said negro woman named Ann Smith having
made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly
in such case made and provided and whereas also upon the oath of Richard Chambers
of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Ann Smith for whom this
certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission I do
therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her own account
she was thirty five years of age or thereabouts the nineteenth day of August last past
four feet ten and a half inches high or thereabouts born and raised in Talbot County
complexion nearly black has a small scar near the outer corner of her left eye
and two scars of burns on her right arm and above them on the same arm a scar
from a scratch of a nail and has no other notable marks or scars that I have
