68 was raised in Caroline County supposed by Mr Hopkins to be about thirty one years of age his left ancle is somewhat crooked is of a black complexion shows his teeth middling plain and has no other notable marks that I have discovered And I further certify that the said negro man named Peter Hawkins made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that he had lost the original pass and not sold or gave it to any other coloured person whatsoever the said negro man named Peter Hawkins has a scar on his under lip occasioned as he says by the bite of a man which scar he alleges he received since the original certificate of his freedom was granted (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 23d day of June Anno Domini 1832 Cost $1.00 cts Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man named Emory Johnson for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act was free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travil out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Thomas Goldsborough of Caroline County that the said negro man named Emory Johnson for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that from his own account he was twenty five years of age the twenty second day of March last five feet eight inches high or thereabouts of a black complexion was born in Queen Anns and raised in Caroline County has a large scar of a burn partly on the left knee and has not other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 17th day of July Anno Domini 1832 Cost $1.00 cts Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit; on the first day of January in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and seventy nine a certain William Peters of Caroline County by deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline did manumit and set free a certain negro boy named Jacob (now calling himself Jacob Cook) to be free when he should arrive to the age of twenty two years and |
