To Joseph Richardson Clerk of Caroline County Court
                                                          The undersigned a free negro of Caroline County wishing
to visit the City of Philadelphia for the purpose of seeing her sisters   By an act of this State
it is necessary my intention of leaving this State should be made known to you
It is my intention to return here again within two months from this date   Given under
my hand this ninth day of May Eighteen hundred and thirty six
