250 a small scar on the right hand and one do on the thumb of the left hand and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed Dark Chesnutt Complexion. In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the seal (Seal) of Caroline County Court this 29th day of August 1849 James H. Fountain Clk State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man named Charles Potts for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the acts of assembly in such case made and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born. And whereas also upon the oath of Thomas Numbers of Caroline County aforesaid that said negro man named Charles Potts for whom this Certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that from his own account he is now about twenty five years of age five four and three fourth inches high or thereabouts of black complexion was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and has a small scar under the right eye and one ditto on the left temple and has no other marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and affix the seal of Caroline County Court this 15th day of September Anno (Seal) Domini 1849 James H Fountain Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit whereas application hath been made to me by a negro girl ^woman^ named Mary Willson for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such Case made and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention |
