166 or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County is of a black complexion and has a scar of a burn on the upper & inner part of his left arm and no other notable mark or scar that I have obserbed (Seal) In testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 3.d day of January Anno Domini 1842 Jo Richardson Clk Caroline County Court NB The above discribed negro man calls himself Henry Emory Jo Richardson Clk Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro woman named Nancy Canada for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born; and whereas also upon the oath of William Connelly of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro woman named Nancy Canada for whom this certificate is made was free born; I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her own account she was twenty one years of age on the last of July last past four feet eleven and a half inches high or thereabouts of a Mulatto Complexion was born and resided in Caroline County and has a small scar near the first joint of her right thumb and has no other notable mark or scar that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 10th day of May 1842 Jo Richardson Clk of Cost $1.00 Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit; on the twelfth day of May Eighteen hundred and twenty eight a certain Jacob C Willson of Caroline COunty by deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a negro Girl Called Mary Ann Holmes to be free on the eighth day of March Eighteen hundred and forty two; and the said negro woman named Mary Ann Holmes having made application to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided And Whereas also upon the oath of James B Rumbold of Caroline County that the said negro woman Called Mary Ann Holmes for whom this certificate is made is the same person |
