Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

his said application and hereby certify that from his own account he has twenty one years
of age on the last day of August last past five feet ten and a half inches high or
thereabouts was borned and raised in Caroline County Complexion black and has
two (lumps) natural marks on his head one small the other large and another small
scar of a cut just under his right jaw and has no other notable marks or scats that I have observed
(seal)               In Testimony Whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the
                        public seal of my office this 19th day of May Anno Domini 1838

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit on
the nineteenth day of June eighteen hundred and twenty seven a certain William
Whiteley of Caroline County by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged
and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set
free a negro woman called Sinah and the said negro woman called Sinah having
made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of
Assembly in such case made and provided  And Whereas also upon the oath
of James Sangston of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Sinah
for whom this certificate is the same person mentioned in said manumission
I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify from her age
as expressed in the said manumission she was thirty nine years of age on the
nineteenth day of June last past five feet three inches high or thereabouts
of a mulattoe complexion & raised in Caroline County and has a scar of a cut
on her right arm just above the elbow joint and has no other notable marks
or scars that I have observed

                    affix the public seal of my office this 7.th day of June Anno Domini 1838

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Application hath
been made to me by a negro woman named Juliann Green for a Certificate
of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such case made and
provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to
travel out of this State upon the obtention of  certificate of being free born
And Whereas also upon the oath of John Saulsbury of Caroline County aforesaid
