576 slavery liberate manumit and set free the following negroes from the several periods herein after mentioned vizt my negro woman maria being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance to be free from and after the first day of may 1836 my negro man Jerry aged 32 years lately sold for a term of years to Gustavus R Barber to be free from and after the first day of may 1844 my negro Girl sally aged 15 years to be free from and after the first day of may 1851 ,my negro girl Fanny aged eleven years to be free on the first day of may 1851 and for ever thereafter my negro boy Charles aged nine years to be free from and after the first day of may 1857 all the said negroes being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and said negroes I do declare to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators or any person or persons whatever from the several periods herein before mentioned for ever In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this sixth day of april in the year of our Lord 1836 Signed sealed and delivered in presence of Jn.o Ridgely (seal) Edward Dubois Jn.o Ridout At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County Sc On this 6th day of april 1836 personally appears John Ridgely party to the above Instrument of writing before me the subscriber Justice of the peace of the state of maryland for said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and the negroes within named to be manumitted and |
