twenty six

On the back of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit
Anne Arundel County ss   On this 24th day of July 1826
personally appears Joseph R Hopkins party to the within
instrument of writing before me the subscriber a justice of the
peace of the state of Maryland for said county and acknowledges
the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned
& desires the same may be recorded as such

This Indenture Witnesseth that I Frederick Wells of
Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland for and in
consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars Current money
to me in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery
of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
have released from slavery manumitted and set free and
by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set
free my negro man named Richard Elliott being under
forty five years of age of a healthy constitution sound in
mind and body and capable by labour to procure to him
sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessaries
of life      In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and affixed my seal the ninth day of september
eighteen hundred and twenty six
