20 Whereas John Brice of anne arundel County did on or about the 9th day of September 1805 make and execute to Joseph Selby of said County a bill of sale for certain negro slaves therein mentioned to serve the said Selby for the term of time therein mentioned which bill of sale is hereto annexed by reference thereunto had will more fully appear And whereas the term for which the said woman Kate was sold has now expired and since the expiration of said service to the said Selby the said woman Kate has had three Children and it being the intention of the said John Brice that the said Boys Tom and Jack should be entitled to and enjoy their freedom from and after the expiration of the time they were to serve the said Joseph Selby. Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John Brice for and in consideration of the above recited premises and also in further consideration of the sum of five dollars Current money to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the aforesaid negro woman Kate from and after the tenth day of September Eighteen hundred and ten and all the issue born after the said tenth day of September Eighteen hundred and ten and negroes Tom and Jack I do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free after the expiration of the time specified in the annexed bill of sale executed to the said Joseph Selby.
