162 according to the act of Assembly in such cases made and provided Ch.d acknowledged before Joseph Sands 2¾ Recorded the 3.rd day of September 1811 To all whomb it may concern Be it Known that I John Merriken of Ann Arundell County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do release from Slavery manumitt liberate and set free and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery manumit liberate and set free my negro man James Titus he being now of the age of thirty nine years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelyhood and maintenance and him the said negro man James Titus I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from the date hereof from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs executors or administrators forever. In Testamony whereoff I hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of September eighteen hundred and eleven Witness Gideon White John Merriken (seal) Jno Mallonee On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Ann Arundel County Ss.t On the 14 day of September 1811 appeared John Merriken before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to |
