33 inches high was to be free when she arrived at eighteen years of age her complexion black was raised in Prince Georges County and now resides in the County of Anne Arundel. Henry Waters of said County made oath before James H Marriott a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid that the said negro Polly is the identical person mentioned in the said deed of manumission. She does not appear to have any notable marks Issd the 2nd of June 1807 State of Maryland ann arundel county to wit I Nicholas Harwood clerk of anne arundel county court do hereby certify that it appears by a deed of Manumission from Mary Hopkins to negro Candas of the County aforesaid bearing date on the first day of april Seventeen hundred and eighty two and recorded amongst the records of anne arundel county court aforesaid that freedom was thereby granted unto a negro woman stated then to be of the age of seven years which said freedom was to take place when she arrived to the age of eighteen years I further certify that a negro woman named Candas now present and who has made application to me for a certificate of her freedom has proved by testimony which is satisfactory to me that she is the identical person who was manumitted by the above mentioned deed of manumission the said negro woman Candas is about five feet six inches high & appears to be about thirty two years of age her complexion dark and was raised at the head of south river in the county aforesaid Issued the 4.th day of June 1807 |
