Maryland:   Anne Arundel County Sc.t

             I Nicholas Harwood Clerk of Anne Arundel
County Court Hereby certify that it appears by the
Records of Anne Arundel County aforesaid that a
certain William Reynolds of the City of Annapolis
and County of Anne Arundel aforesaid by his certain
Deed of Manumission bearing date on the seventeenth
day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and four did manumit liberate set free
and discharge from Slavery among other persons
in the said Deed of manumission mentioned and
described a mulatto Girl named Elizabeth Reynolds
born on the sixth day of September in the year
of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty
three.            I further certify that a bright mulatto
woman now present named Elizabeth formerly called
Elizabeth Reynolds but now called Elizabeth Shorter
has made application to me for a Certificate of
her freedom and has proved by Testimony which
is satisfactory to me that she is the identical person
mentioned and described in the said Deed of manumission
executed by the said William Reynolds
                I further Certify that the said Elizabeth
now called and known by the name of Elizabeth
Shorter is a very bright mulatto nearly white is
about five feet two inches and an half high; appears
to be about twenty four years of age and has a
scar on the right side of her neck occasioned
