meaning thereof            Acknowledged before

Howard before me the subscriber a Justice of the
peace for Ann Arundel County and according to ^the^ Laws
of the state of maryland acknowledged and delivered ^declared^ the
within Instrument of Writing to be his act & Will

                To all whom it may concern be it known
that I Leonard SCott of the City of Annapolis in Anne
Arundel County and State of Maryland for divers
good causes and Considerations of the sum of
five shillings Current Money to me in hand paid
have released from Slavery liberated manumitted and
Set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery
liberate manumit and Set free my negro Woman
named Mazey and her five Children that is
