is Black; and who Appears by the said Will and testimony became free in eighteen
hundred and twenty seven is the Identical Person who was manumitted or freed as
aforesaid and That the said negro Charles was Raised in Anne Arundel County
and has a small scar over the Right eye
             In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and Affixed
             the seal of my Office this Third day of July in the year of Our Lord
             one Thousand eight hundred and Thirty one

       The State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to Wit
                    I hereby certify to all whom it doth or may concern that on an
examination of the Records and Papers in the office of the Register of Wills
for Anne Arundel County it appears that the last Will and Testament of
Hester Hood late of the County aforesaid, deceased, bearing date the sixth
day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
twenty six was proved and recorded in the said Office on the third day of
October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight Hundred and twenty
eight in Liber T T S N.o 1 folio 6 &c and that the said Hester Hood by
her said Will among other things did devise and direct that at her death
her negro man named Harry should be discharged from servitude, set free,
and exonerated from all manner of Slavery.
                    And I do further Certify That it hath been proved by such Testimony
as is Satisfactory to me that the Bearer hereof negro Harry whose height is
about five feet three and three fourth inches; whose age is about Twenty Seven
years; whose complexion is dark; and who as appears by the said Will and
Testimony became free at the death of the said Hester Hood is the
identical person who was manumitted or freed as aforesaid and that the
said negro Harry was raised in Anne Arundel County and has a scar under
his left Ear and one over his left eye
                            In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name
        (Seal)           and affixed the seal of my office this thirtieth day of
                            August in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight
                            hundred and thirty one
