thereto was at the time of so doing a Justice of the peace in and for said
County duly commissioned and sworn   In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
                            my name & affix the seal of said to wit this 22nd day of

Anne Arundel County Sct  I certify that James Iglehart this day paid
one dollar being the duty chargeable by Law on this Instrument of writing
the receipt whereof is hereon endorsed agreeably to the act of assembly
of December session 1846 chapter 61   Given under my hand this 27th day
of February 1850

Landy Linsted
Know all Men by these presents that I John T. Ewell
of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland for
and in consideration of the sum of four hundred
dollars current money to me in hand paid by Landy
Linsted of the County and State aforesaid at and before the sealing
and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged
have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and
Sell unto the said Landy Linsted his executors administrators and assigns
one negro lad or boy named James or James Grange a slave for life
To Have and To Hold the said negro Boy above described to the
Said Landy Linsted his executors administrators and assigns aforesaid
forever   And I the said John T Ewell for myself my executors and
administrators the said negro Boy above described to the said Landy
Linsted his executors and administrators will warrant and defend
against me my Executors and administrators and all person or
persons claiming or to claim by from or under me    And I the
Said John T. Ewell do by these presents warrant the said negro
above described as sound in body and mind and a slave for life
In Testimony Whereof I have hereto set my hand & affixed my
this Twenty seventh day of February Eighteen hundred & fifty
Signed sealed & delivered
    in the presence of                  John T. Yewell   (seal)

State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sct   On this Twenty seventh
day of February Eighteen hundred and fifty personally appeared
before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the said State in and
for said County the aforegoing John T. Ewell party grantor to the
aforegoing Instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to
be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned
