178 On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Maryland Anne Arundel County Sc On this fourteenth day of April 1842 before me one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County appears Joseph Chaney and acknowledges the foregoing writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided Owen Disney chd 53 4 Recorded the 2 day of May 1842 Know all Men by these presents that I SAmuel Smith of Anne Arundel County and state of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one Thousand Dollars Current money for me become responsible on a securityship in favour of Kentt and Mackall by an appeal from the County Court to the Court of appeals to be holden in the City of Annapolis on their Judgment obtained last year for Eight hundred and five Dollars and Nineteen Cents with Interest and Costs accruing thereon &.c To Robert B Chew of Calvert Ct and State aforesaid and Robert G Pindle of the County and state first abovenamed at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of the suretyship whereof I the said Samuel Smith do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Robert B Chew and Robert G Pindle their Executors administrators and assigns my negro man a slave named Curren aged Forty years also my negro Girl Cornelia aged Eighteen Years and also my Servant Girl Louise aged sixteen years and now in my possession To have and To hold the said Negro slaves to the said Robert B Chew and Robert G Pindle their heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said Samuel Smith for myself my heirs Executors and administrators the aforesaid Negroe slaves to the said Robert B Chew and Robert G Pindle their Executors administrators and assigns against me the said Samuel Smith my Executors and administrators and against all and every person or persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents Provided nevertheless that in Case I the said Samuel Smith shall pay and satisfy the said Kentt and Mackall's or their Executors administrators or assigns the sum of Eight hundred and four Dollars and nineteen Cents Current money with the Interests and Costs then due on or before the decision of the Court of Appeals so that the said Robert B Chew & Robt G Pindle shall sustain no damage or loss by their being securities on the said debt then this bill of sale and every matter and thing therein expressed shall become void and of none effect it being the true intent and Meaning thereof that the said negro slaves is mortgaged by me to the said Robert B Chew & Robert G Pindle to secure the payment of the aforesaid Kentt & Mackall (in) |
