Valentine Reimsnider
    Mortgage to
Mordecai K. Smith
 This Mortgage made this Seventeenth
day of May in the year of our Lord one
thousand Eight hundred and fifty Eight
by Valentine Reimsnider of Anne Arundel
County in the State of Maryland Witnesseth that Whereas I the
said Valentine Reimsnider being now justly indebted to Mordecai
J. Smith of Howard County Maryland in the sum
of Two Hundred and twenty Three Dollars & Seventy one cents
in consideration thereof do hereby bargain and sell to the said
Mordecai K Smith the following property namely.  Those
two bay mules now in my possession provided that if I
the said Valentine Reimsnider shall pay the said Mordecai
K Smith the sum of Two hundred and Twenty Three
dollars & Seventy one cents on or before the fifteenth day of
June Eighteen hundred and fifty eight then these presents
shall be void otherwise to remain in full force in case of
such failure to pay as aforesaid the said Mordecai K. Smith
hereby Covenants on receipt of the said Mules in good sound condition
to allow the said Valentine Reimsnider for said
mules the sum of Two hundred and fifty Dollars and
pay him the sum over and above this mortgage debt
which will make the amount of two hundred and fifty
dollars as aforesaid   Witness my hand and seal
Signed sealed and delivered
       in the presence of              Berluntin Rinerrnripsnider (seal)

State of Maryland Howard County to wit
    I hereby certify that on this Seventeenth day of May
in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty eight
before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of
Maryland in and for the County aforesaid personally appeared
Valentine Reimsnider and acknowledged the foregoing Mortgage
to be his act
                Witness my hand and seals   Charles Soper   (seal)
